Steps that Matter: June 22 Walk

We are excited to participate in a fundraising initiative to support the Mohawk Institute as our school continues on our journey of Indigenous learning.  The Mohawk Institute was Canada’s longest-running Residential School for Indigenous Peoples and was located in Brantford, Ontario (adjacent to the Six Nations of the Grand River).  It operated from 1828 to 1970.  Funds raised will go to support the Mohawk Village Memorial Park.  This is a survivor-led initiative to raise funds and build a space of remembrance, truth, and healing on the former school grounds.

 

On June 22nd, students will walk the back of their own school grounds to raise money for this important project.  Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the Mohawk Institute in their classrooms.
